Citizen Science

Citizen Science - what is it?

The Department of Classics has made it its mission to promote the transfer of "science to the public". Michaela Zinko started with a school cooperation called "New Paths into Antiquity" and has been inspiring individual school classes with her workshops on the topic of antiquity for several years now.

Citizen Science goes one step further and brings pupils and interested parties into contact with all of the Institute's specialist areas and focal points through workshops, exhibition accompaniment and much more, and can be ideally integrated into lessons. Interested parties are also welcome to get in touch.

The versatile formats can be used for different school subjects and areas of interest.

New paths into antiquity - cooperation with BG/ BRG Keplerstraße Graz

Project management: Michaela ZINKO

Cooperation project between the University of Graz / Institute of Antiquity and the BRG Keplerstraße, represented by Director Franz Riegler

Cooperation GZ.: 39/41/89 ex 2018/19

The project introduces students to current issues in ancient studies and new research methods in various areas of ancient studies, in particular ancient history and antiquity and historical-comparative linguistics.
Students are taught about current topics in these fields in the form of educational excursions, workshops and joint projects, and are offered insights into the latest research findings on various ongoing research activities.
Together with the students, questions on the above-mentioned aspects of ancient studies are dealt with, demonstrating the topicality and contemporary relevance of the subject area.
The departments of Ancient History and Classical Studies and Historical-Comparative Linguistics within Classical Studies offer a wide range of projects due to their broad materiality, which can be worked on together with the students with the help of new media and digital sciences.
