What does the section of Classical and Provincial Roman Archaeology deal with?
The section of Classical and Provincial Roman Archaeology at the Department of Classics is responsible for scientific research and teaching in the field of archaeology with a focus on classical and provincial Roman archaeology, including the prehistoric and medieval archaeology of the Eastern Alps. The subject is the material heritage of the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean region, i.e. the Greek and Roman cultures and their peripheral cultures. The temporal boundaries can be outlined with the Minoan and Mycenaean cultures of Greece on the one hand and the late antique and early Christian cultures on the other.
